Located in southern Alberta, Lethbridge has a rather dry, fairly continental type climate, though temperature extremes are not as great as for some points further east. Precipitation totals only about 350-400mm per year, with most of the winter precipitation falling as snow. Snow covers the ground much of the winter, but it not usually very deep, and at times the ground is bare. Early summer is the wettest time, with over 60mm the average for June. Winter temperatures are cold with daytime highs averaging near freezing and nighttime lows about -10 - -15C. On rare occasions, -40C has been observed. Chinook winds can bring rapid warming in winter and some days can have highs approaching 20. Summer is mostly mild, with lows around 10 and highs in the 20’s, with a few hot days over 35.
