Astronomical Info NEW
Did You Know:
Light from the sun arriving just now is 8 minutes old
1 light year equals just under 10 trillion kilometers or 6 trillion miles
To slow the process of aging you would have to travel the speed of light Reach the speed of light and time stops all together.
Gravity is a force that acts between any two objects that have mass. Anything that has mass has its own gravity field and reacts to a gravity field. Gravity keeps all the planets in orbit.
A black hole is so dense – they tear the fabric of space time. It is a massive object that creates a very large and deep dimple in the space time fabric. It's formed when large amounts of matter are crammed into a tiny space. Imagine all the earth’s mass in less than an inch across to turn into a black hole. Black holes are the remnants of super massive star that has gone super nova. A black hole forms at the end of life of a very massive star. The whole core goes bang in a fraction of a second. The matter cannot stop itself and it falls into a black hole. Even light is effected by gravity. We’ve never seen a black hole
When we look into the sky we are looking at the past. Looking back in time hundreds of thousands of years ago – it’s taken the light that long to reach us. When a star explodes 5 billion light years away it takes the light from that explosion 5 billion years to reach us. That star exploded even before the earth was formed 4.7 billion years ago. Only now is that light reaching our telescopes.
Nothing is faster than light
The technology that took us to space is essentially the same technology used to this day. The fuel required to launch the shuttle weighed 20 times more than the shuttle itself. 3 million pounds of fuel to launch the shuttle just a few hundred miles above the earth
